| Following
are descriptions of some neighborhoods and subdivisions you'll find in the Cloudcroft
area. Many of these areas are referenced in PROPERTIES
FOR SALE. |
| Cox
Canyon lies southeast of Cloudcroft on Highway 130 and extends past the Sunspot
Highway turnoff, Ponderosa Pines Golf Course, and Highway 24 towards Weed, Sacramento,
and Piņon. The canyon has landscapes as varied as the neighborhoods which dot
the highway down to Mayhill but mostly there are tall pines and aspens with an
occasional grassy meadow tucked in between. You're bound to see lots of wildlife
in this canyon including deer, elk, and wild turkey or enjoy a hike or horseback
ride through one of the many smaller canyons off the main road. Neighborhoods
along the way include, Silver Cloud, Chippeway Park, Waterfall, and
Ponderosa
Pines. Off Highway 130 you'll find beautiful though a bit more remote properties
along: Sunspot Highway, Russia Canyon and High Nogal, Rio Peņasco Canyon and Weed
and Sacramento. EMAIL me for more
information on Cox Canyon. |
| High Rolls/Mountain Park - approximately halfway
between Alamogordo and Cloudcroft lie the two communities of High Rolls and Mountain
Park. At an elevation of approximately 6500 feet this area represents the best
of both worlds for those who wish to escape the heat of the desert but cannot
tolerate or do not like the 9000 foot elevation of Cloudcroft with it's winter
snows. HRMP is usually 10 degrees cooler than Alamogordo and 10 degrees warmer
than Cloudcroft. We do receive snow here but it rarely presents problems. There
are several subdivisions in the HRMP area each with it's own set of Restrictive
Covenants and water sources. For information on a specific neighborhood in High
Rolls/Mountain Park please EMAIL
me. Neighborhoods include: Indian Lodge Mountain, Mountain Estates, Karr Canyon
Estates, West Side Road, Braunstein, Red Mountain, Haynes Canyon, Orchard Loop,
Mountain Orchard, Majestic Mountain. |
| James Canyon runs for approximately 17
miles east of Cloudcroft to Mayhill. Along the way you'll find lots of tall trees,
grassy meadows, undulating hillsides and mountain ridges. You slowly drop in elevation
along the way so the climate becomes progressively milder as you leave Cloudcroft
down to the Rio Peņasco Valley past Mayhill. The area does receive snow and in
shady spots will stay through late Spring. Again, wildlife abounds - elk, deer,
wild turkey, and the occasional bear. Wimsatt Rodeo Arena is along the way, site
of the annual Memorial Day Weekend Rodeo. There are numerous neighborhoods on
and off the beaten path including: Young Canyon, Sky Country, The Ranch, Cloud
Country West, James Canyon Estates, Twin Forks, Sixteen Springs, Robinhood Estates,
Cloud Country Estates, Irongate, Mt. Joy, and Valley View each with its own attraction
and appeal. EMAIL me for further
information on properties in any of these neighborhoods.
| La
Luz and Laborcita Canyon - just before you begin your journey up the mountain
on Highway 82 to Cloudcroft you'll pass the road which takes you into La Luz and
east into Laborcita Canyon. La Luz is an historic community with many interesting,
older structures including Our Lady of the Light Catholic Church. Private wells
and ditch water irrigate most of the homes and gardens. You'll find lots of fruit
trees including fig and pomegranate. Just a short drive further east brings you
into Laborcita Canyon, a beautiful high desert community with both subdivisions
and unrestricted land. It is unusual here to find a home without an outstanding
view either of the White Sands or the surrounding canyons. BLM land (Bureau of
Land Management) adds privacy to many properties. You'll find horse properties
and orchards here where the elevation tops out at approximately 6300 feet. Like
more information? EMAIL me here.
| | Pineywoods Estates
- Halfway between High Rolls/Mountain Park and Cloudcroft (just 4 miles to either).
Pineywoods consists of part-time and full-time residences. Known for it's wooded
parcels and nice views, lots range from ¼ acre to ½ acre. It is
sometimes possible to purchase several contiguous lots. A quiet and private subdivision,
Pineywoods has a water association and Restrictive Covenants. Four-wheel drive
is recommended. |
| Village of Cloudcroft - often referred
to as "The Village," Cloudcroft celebrated it's centennial in 1999.
There are several subdivisions within the Village of Cloudcroft each with it's
own set of Covenants or Restrictions. (EMAIL
me for info on specific neighborhoods in Cloudcroft) In general, homes in The
Village are serviced with water, sewage, road maintenance and use of trash receptacles
for a monthly fee of approximately $40. Amenities include Burro Street shopping,
groceries at Mountaintop Mercantile, Zenith Park, Cloudcroft Elementary, Middle
and High Schools with football field and track, and the historic Lodge for dinner,
golfing or Champagne Sunday brunch.
